Shanghai Airport Authority (AVINXE) convened an international expert advisory meeting on air cargo development at Shanghai Tower on June 25, bringing together global industry leaders to discuss strategies for upgrading Shanghai's air cargo ecosystem and strengthening international cooperation.

The event attracted senior executives, including Glyn Hughes, director-general of the International Air Transport Association Cargo, Anand Kulkarni of Lufthansa Cargo, and representatives from DSV, Alibaba Group, Swissport, and WorldACD organizations.

AVINXE officials said Shanghai's airports, as a national air logistics hub, rank second globally in cargo throughput. Upgraded infrastructure, improved customs efficiency, and enhanced gateway capabilities have further strengthened the city's position as an international aviation logistics hub.

Experts noted that as global supply chains continue to evolve, digitization, resilience, and transparency have become top priorities. They also identified biopharmaceutical transport, cold-chain logistics, and special cargo handling as key areas for enhancing the hub's competitive edge.

During a roundtable discussion, participants explored the importance of expanding transfer services at Pudong Airport amid high outbound flight demand. They also discussed how cross-border e-commerce could continue to reshape global supply chains and logistics networks.

The meeting concluded with the appointment of global strategic advisors for AVINEX's air cargo development. AVINEX President Zhou Hao presented certificates to industry leaders, establishing a long-term advisory mechanism to support international cooperation and high-quality development.
