Pudong Airport launches inaugural winter tourism flight to Shigatse
Released:2025-11-14

On Nov 12, Shanghai Pudong International Airport hosted the departure of the first chartered flight for Shanghai's winter tour to Shigatse, Southwest China's Xizang autonomous region. The event marked the launch of the new tourism initiative.

Key officials, including Xiong Ying, deputy director-general of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Cooperation and Exchange Office, and Shen Min, deputy mayor of Shigatse, attended the ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

The winter tourism program is part of Shanghai's ongoing support for Xizang. After the ceremony, 102 Shanghai residents boarded the flight for a nine-day journey to explore the unique landscapes and cultural landmarks of Xizang.

On Nov 1, Xizang Tourism Bureau launched the winter tour to Xizang campaign, offering discounts on attractions, hotels, and flights. Shanghai's special airline plus tourism package combines affordable flights and tours, allowing locals to immediately benefit from the initiative and helping to extend Shigatse's tourism season from peak to year-round.

The Shanghai Airport Authority has long been a partner in Xizang's development, playing a vital role in the construction of the Shigatse Dingri Airport in 2018. This year, the airport also sent personnel to assist with tourism projects.

The collaboration provides travelers with immersive experience, covering popular destinations like Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) National Park and Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, offering both natural beauty and cultural depth.
