Civil Aviation Administration of China: Power banks without 3C certification or recalled models banned on domestic flights

To ensure the safety of aviation operations, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has issued an urgent notice. Starting June 28, passengers are prohibited from carrying power banks that lack a 3C certification label, have unclear 3C labeling, or belong to recalled models or batches on domestic flights. Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport will enforce the requirements of this notice to ensure passenger safety. Please do not bring non-compliant power banks on board. Remove your power bank before security checks to prevent travel delays.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport has connected its new 23.92-megawatt distributed photovoltaic project to the internal grid, marking full-capacity operation.

The system is expected to generate about 24.58 million kilowatt-hours per year, reduce carbon emissions by 13,200 metric tons, and save more than 7.4 million yuan ($1.04 million) in electricity expenses annually.

With the latest connection, the airport's total installed distributed solar capacity has reached 52.38 megawatts, making it one of the top civil airports in China for renewable energy deployment and on-site clean power generation.

Large land areas and high energy demand make civil airports ideal for distributed solar power, but glare control still poses a major challenge. To solve this, Pudong Airport required panels that deliver high efficiency while ensuring safety, reliability, and anti-glare performance from the start.

Custom modules with all-black frames and specialized anti-glare coatings were chosen to diffuse light and prevent metallic reflections. The mounting system features double-nut locking and rear clamping components, allowing the panels to endure strong coastal winds and other severe weather conditions.

Engineers also used simulation models to optimize panel tilt angles and enhance compliance with airport airfield clearance standards, ensuring the solar arrays integrate safely into the aviation environment.

Pudong Airport has implemented several clean-energy initiatives, including the 1.59-megawatt P4 parking garage rooftop array and the 13.61-megawatt and 10.8-megawatt systems completed since 2023.

The airport plans to expand to a 100-megawatt distributed photovoltaic network, supporting Shanghai Airport Authority's broader goals for greener operations and long-term low-carbon development.
