Civil Aviation Administration of China: Power banks without 3C certification or recalled models banned on domestic flights

To ensure the safety of aviation operations, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has issued an urgent notice. Starting June 28, passengers are prohibited from carrying power banks that lack a 3C certification label, have unclear 3C labeling, or belong to recalled models or batches on domestic flights. Pudong Airport and Hongqiao Airport will enforce the requirements of this notice to ensure passenger safety. We kindly ask all passengers to comply with this notice by carefully checking the certification label, brand, and model of your power banks before traveling. Shanghai's two airports recorded unprecedented flight and passenger volumes during the 62-day summer travel season, according to Shanghai Airport (Group) Co Ltd.

From July 1 to Aug 31, Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport handled a combined total of 147,000 flights, up 3 percent from last year. Pudong accounted for 99,000 flights and Hongqiao 48,000.

Passenger traffic reached 24.18 million, averaging 390,000 travelers per day, up 5 percent year-on-year. Of the total, 15.48 million passengers traveled through Pudong and 8.70 million through Hongqiao.

To meet rising demand from a diverse traveler base, the airports introduced new measures to enhance efficiency and convenience. Pudong added seven self-service check-in and baggage drop kiosks, while Hongqiao launched passenger-flow-based security check lanes.

Nearly 60 integrated information screens were also installed at ride-hailing pick-up points and driver waiting areas, providing real-time updates on ride requests and vehicle locations.

Since 2025, the city has expanded its global air network with new intercontinental routes to Belgrade, Casablanca, and Geneva, along with additional Asian destinations such as Japan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia.
