The 40-day Spring Festival travel season ended successfully on March 5 and Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport together did great business during the period.
They handled a combined total of 89,000 take-offs and landings, a 33.7 percent surge from last year. Passenger traffic reached 13.76 million, a hefty gain of 67.7 percent year-on-year.
In fact, during the Spring Festival this year, both the number of flights and the number of passengers reached an all-time high.
On Feb 8, a record number of 2,361 flights landed or took off. In addition, on Feb 15 a whopping 395,000 passenger trips were handled, setting a new single-day record for the annual 40-day peak period.
To ensure a safe, comfortable and enjoyable travel experience, the airports diligently followed protocols. What's more, they improved their services for special passengers, including the elderly and families.
Initiatives included services such as first-time traveler assistance and companion services. Travelers were able to book comprehensive assistance from the curb to the cabin by calling the Shanghai Airport Service Hotline on 96990. Inside the Shanghai Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub, passengers enjoyed streamlined eco-friendly pathways connecting the airport, high-speed rail and subway.
The festive spirit was all about at both airports, with themed decorations adding to the fun. Traditional Chinese cultural elements adorned the terminals and live performances of traditional arts added to the festive atmosphere.
For international travelers, the airports continued to improve entry services. Eight one-stop Entry Facilitation Service Points were strategically placed in the departures and arrivals areas.
These provided self-service and human assistance for practical needs such as WiFi registration, purchase of transport cards and SIM cards, currency exchanges, mobile payments and travel inquiries.
The airport information desks provided complete guidance for foreign travelers.
